Creamy Potatoes Au Gratin recipe

  • Author: Olivia

Ingredients

Scale

  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with olive oil. This step ensures that your potatoes don’t stick to the dish and makes for easier clean-up.
  3. Layer half of the potato slices in the dish. Spread them evenly for a uniform cook.
  4. Sprinkle with garlic, salt, pepper, and half of the cheese. This layering helps in infusing flavor throughout the dish.
  5. Add the remaining potato slices, followed by cream. Pour the cream evenly to ensure every potato slice is coated.
  6. Top with the rest of the cheese and thyme. The cheese will melt and create a golden crust that is simply irresistible.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. This step ensures that the potatoes cook through.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden and bubbly. The uncovered bake allows the cheese to crisp up, adding texture to your dish.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This cooling period allows the dish to set, making it easier to serve.
