Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with olive oil. This step ensures that your potatoes don’t stick to the dish and makes for easier clean-up.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the dish. Spread them evenly for a uniform cook.
- Sprinkle with garlic, salt, pepper, and half of the cheese. This layering helps in infusing flavor throughout the dish.
- Add the remaining potato slices, followed by cream. Pour the cream evenly to ensure every potato slice is coated.
- Top with the rest of the cheese and thyme. The cheese will melt and create a golden crust that is simply irresistible.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. This step ensures that the potatoes cook through.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden and bubbly. The uncovered bake allows the cheese to crisp up, adding texture to your dish.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This cooling period allows the dish to set, making it easier to serve.
