Chickpea and Spinach Patties

  • Author: Samantha

Ingredients

Scale

To make these healthy and flavorful patties, you will need the following ingredients:

    • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

    • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped

    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

    • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped

    • 2 cloves garlic, minced

    • 1 tsp cumin

    • 1 tsp paprika

    • Salt and pepper, to taste

    • Olive oil for frying

Instructions

Creating these chickpea and spinach patties is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to enjoy a wholesome, homemade meal:

    1. Mash the Chickpeas
In a large bowl, use a fork or potato masher to mash the chickpeas. The goal is to achieve a chunky consistency, which will help bind the patties while providing texture.

    1. Combine Ingredients
Add the chopped spinach, breadcrumbs, onion, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper to the mashed chickpeas. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined. The mixture should be moist but firm enough to hold its shape.

    1. Shape the Patties
With clean hands, shape the mixture into small, round patties. Aim for a uniform size to ensure even cooking.

    1. Heat the Oil
In a frying pan, heat a generous amount of olive oil over medium heat. The oil should be hot enough to sizzle when the patties are added.

    1. Cook the Patties
Carefully place the patties in the hot oil and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side. They should be golden brown and crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside.

    1. Serve and Enjoy
Once cooked, remove the patties from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce or inside a sandwich.
