Hearty Grain Bread recipe

  • Author: Olivia

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour: Provides a robust base with plenty of fiber.
  • 1 cup rolled oats: Adds texture and heartiness, contributing to the bread’s chewy quality.
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds: Offers a nutty flavor and a dose of healthy fats.
  • 1/4 cup flaxseeds: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fiber.
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup): Adds a touch of sweetness that balances the flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon salt: Enhances the taste and balances the sweetness.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder: Helps the bread rise, ensuring a light and fluffy texture.
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water: Essential for combining ingredients and activating the baking powder.
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts or dried fruits: Customize your bread with added texture and flavors.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your bread bakes evenly from the start.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, salt, and baking powder. Ensure the mixture is well-blended for a consistent dough.
  3. Prepare the wet mixture: In another bowl, mix the warm water with honey (or maple syrup) until well combined. This liquid mixture will moisten the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix the dough: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring continuously until a dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but hold its shape.
  5. Add optional ingredients: If you desire extra flavor and texture, fold in optional chopped nuts or dried fruits. Ensure they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Prepare the loaf pan: Transfer the dough to a greased loaf pan, smoothing the top to ensure even baking.
  7. Bake the bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. The bread is ready when it’s golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the bread to cool for a few minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack. Once slightly cooled, slice and enjoy!
