Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
1. Bake the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions, using the eggs, water, and vegetable oil.
- Pour the cake batter into two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely on a wire rack.
2. Make the Chocolate Drip
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it begins to simmer.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Stir the mixture until smooth and the chocolate has completely melted. This will create a luscious chocolate ganache for the drip.
3. Assemble the Cake
- Place one layer of the cooled cake on a serving plate or cake stand.
- Spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting on top of this layer.
- Add the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining chocolate frosting.
4. Add the Chocolate Drip
- Carefully pour the chocolate ganache around the edges of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- If desired, fill the top of the cake with more ganache for a fuller chocolate effect.
- Decorate with sprinkles to add a touch of fun and color, if you choose to use them.
5. Chill the Cake
- Place the cake in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This will help set the chocolate drip and make slicing the cake easier.
